Megan assembling Emergency Air Supply

            Megan au travail sur un système important : vous avez peut-être déjà vu les démonstrations de sécurité dans l’avion « en cas de dépressurisation les masques tomberont devant vous » ? Et bien pour nous ils ne tombent pas tout seuls, il s’agit donc de les enfiler rapidement. Si jamais on devait les garder longtemps, par exemple en cas d’atmosphère devenue toxique dans la station, on peut les connecter à ce système d’alimentation, qui sera déployé dans notre Dragon.  Ça nous laissera le temps de filtrer les polluants, ou au moins d’enfiler nos scaphandres pour un retour à la maison anticipé. Comme d’habitude, on s’entraîne à toutes les éventualités, mais on travaille surtout pour qu’elles n’arrivent pas.  

You know the safety demonstrations in aircraft when the crew say “In case of a loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks above your seat will deploy, please place the mask…”. For us up here they don’t fall down from above but we need to get to the oxygen masks quickly ourselves. If the masks are needed to be worn for a long time, such as if there was a toxic leak that needs cleaning up we can connect our masks to the emergency air supply Megan is assembling in this photo. This would give us enough time to filter the pollutants in the air or even put on our spacesuits and return home. As always we prepare for the worst, and plan for the best.
