Red-throated Loon - a photo on Flickriver

Red-throated Loon

Today the loon did not seem to be trying to free itself from the fishing line entangled in its wings. It looks tired and is hugging the shoreline. I hope it will beach itself tonight so it can be rescued tomorrow. It's such a lovely bird.

Notice how the head color appears grayer in the late afternoon light than in the sunnier part of the day. See earlier photos.

If it beaches itself, Pacific Wildlife Care in Morro Bay 805-543-WILD (9453) might be able to attempt a rescue to free the line from the bird's wings.
