            Every day I thank goodness for my surrogate nursing family. Through this pandemic I have been able to see them, talk to them, laugh with them, cry with them and hug them. 

We are not strangers to death. But we are used to seeing more of our patients improve. Now we see them die, and we must enforce strict isolation and visitation policies. And we must protect ourselves. We are starting to hear the term moral injury tossed about. In reference to ourselves. But we cannot stop. We cannot. 

We struggle not to become angry cynical and bitter. But frankly we are breaking inside. I have long likened what we are doing to combat. Yes, I am a combat vet. I can make that comparison. We are becoming dead inside. 

Making this pandemic political has killed so many. Every day, every night, I see restaurants and bars open for business, with no masking and no social distancing. Soon all who will become infected will be immune or dead. I am starting to despise my fellow man. 

It's supposed to get below freezing tonight. And I go back to work tomorrow. To do it all again.
