The Milky Way over Dunnottar Castle.

The Milky way is quite high in the sky at the moment, which is quite challenging to image. It was cold, and very humid but worth it to see this with my own eyes.

In this picture, you can see airglow - molecules in earth's upper atmosphere which are charged by solar ultraviolet light and cosmic rays; that in turn release their energy in the form of light throughout the night. The green is oxygen, red is hydroxyl. The white glow on the left is light pollution from Aberdeen City.

Remember and get out there, look south on a moonless night and no lights for 45 minutes to let your eyes get dark adapted, you'll start to see some colour in the skies.
