This photo is taken from near the top of Blackcomb Mountain in BC, Canada.  Blackcomb is in the Spearhead Mountain Range which is part of the Coast Mountains and Pacific Range.  The Mountain next door is Whistler Mountain.  Both mountains are famous for their outdoor activities especially skiing/boarding and mountain biking

Through the gap between the impressive outcrops we can see Seventh Heaven in the foreground, Whistler Mountain ski runs in the middle and Powder Mountain in the background.

Blackcomb Mountain is mainly comprised metamorphosed granites / granodiorites (igneous rocks) which are light in colour.   It gets its name from the algae covered granite which is black/grey in colour.  The early pioneers thought the serrated upper part of the mountain resembled a cockerels comb hence Black Comb.  

There are two prominent peaks in the photo Blackcomb and a knarly chute in between. Near the base of the chute is a Rock Glacier which is made up of ice and scree (rock debris / boulders)

The outcrops are highly eroded by freeze thawing, where ice/snow melt during the warm of the day then the water finds its way in cracks and crevaces , then freezes at night.  when ice melts it expands by 9% and can exert 2000 psi.  Eventually the rocks break of due to this cycle of freeze - thaw.
