All that remains

            It was by far the single most difficult decision I have ever had to make.  And I will for the remainder of my entire life question it.  Did I do the right thing?  I honestly don’t know.  There are no illusions in my mind as to how paramount this decision was, and how many lives it has ultimately impacted.  God knows I gave her seven years worth of opportunities to turn herself around.  Even in this, our final confrontation did I allow her time.  Time that was squandered by both of us.  Now it is to late.  And just as so many other regrets I carry in my soul, there is no going back to undo what is done.  All that remains now are questions.  Questions, doubt and guilt.  
In this I take comfort in the unyielding love, council and support of my amazing wife, my family and my friends.  I will heal from this.  But I know I will never truly be able to unearth the answer’s to my questions, just as the aching of regret tugging at my heart will never truly cease.  She will never understand the extent of the damage she had done, nor do I think she genuinely cares.  Perhaps that is why it hurts so much.  As a close friend of mine has told me, 'We want them to care, and it hurts because we know they do not'.  Despite the love we feel for our children and the desire to see that they are safe, secure and loved, we can not force others to feel the same way.  So we will suffer for them.  Quietly burdened by a crown of our own guilt.
