Majestic Retford 3765 - a photo on Flickriver

            Majestic Theatre, Retford. Designed by Alfred Thraves and opened in 1927 as a cine-variety theatre. It was sub-divided in 1981 to form a two-screen cinema (sometimes with bingo usage), resulting in minor damage to the auditorium. This was reversed in 1994 and the auditorium restored, now used solely as a theatre, and run by the Retford Theatre Trust. It seats approx. 650 on two levels. The balcony foyer was originally the cinema café and has a separate entrance. Thraves was a prolific cinema architect, and this is probably the finest surviving example of his work. It is grade 2 listed.
