This is a tree Native to Borneo, red powder puff is an evergreen shrub or small tree. It was formerly included in the legume or pea family, but has recently been shifted into the mimosa family. It typically grows 10-15’ tall in its native habitat and is a very popular flowering shrub in central and southern Florida where it will survive year-round in the ground. Bipinnately compound leaves (5-10 pairs of leaflets per pinna) open copper-pink but mature to dark green. Raspberry-like flower buds open to hemispherical red powder puff flower heads (to 3” across) consisting of masses of scarlet stamens. Blooms primarily in fall and winter, but sporadic additional bloom may occur throughout the rest of the year. Variations in flower color exist, with some pink and white forms being available. Calliandra comes from the Greek words kallos meaning beauty and andros meaning stamen.  

Questo è un albero originario del Borneo, il piumino rosso è un arbusto sempreverde o un piccolo albero. Precedentemente era incluso nella famiglia dei legumi o dei piselli, ma recentemente è stato spostato nella famiglia delle mimose. In genere cresce di 10-15 piedi nel suo habitat naturale ed è un arbusto da fiore molto popolare nella Florida centrale e meridionale, dove sopravviverà tutto l'anno nel terreno. Foglie composte bipennalmente (5-10 paia di foglioline per padiglione auricolare) si aprono di colore rosa rame ma diventano verdi scuro. Blüht hauptsächlich im Herbst und Winter, aber im weiteren Verlauf des Jahres kann es sporadisch zu zusätzlichen Blüten kommen. Es gibt Variationen in der Blütenfarbe, wobei einige rosa und weiße Formen verfügbar sind. Calliandra kommt von den griechischen Wörtern kallos für Schönheit und andros für Staubblatt.

Anteriormente se incluía en la familia de las leguminosas o los guisantes, pero recientemente se ha cambiado a la familia de la mimosa. Por lo general, crece de 10 a 15 pies de altura en su hábitat nativo y es un arbusto con flores muy popular en el centro y sur de Florida, donde sobrevivirá todo el año en el suelo. Las hojas bipinnadamente compuestas (5-10 pares de folíolos por pabellón auricular) se abren de color rosa cobrizo pero maduran a verde oscuro. Escovinha, e diversos outros nomes como Caliandra mesmo.  Muito bonito ver uma arvore cheia deste espanadores em miniatura.  Dizem que é originaria de Bornéu.  Outros dizem que é da Bolivia.  Antigamente, era incluído na família das leguminosas ou ervilhas, mas recentemente foi transferido para a família das mimosas ou favaceas.  Ele normalmente cresce de 10-15 pés de altura em seu habitat nativo e é um arbusto florido muito popular no centro e sul da Flórida, onde sobrevive o ano todo no solo. Folhas compostas bipinaticamente (5-10 pares de folíolos por pinna) abrem-se em rosa-cobre, mas amadurecem em verde escuro. Botões de flores semelhantes a framboesas se abrem em cabeças de flores em forma de pó vermelho hemisférico (até 3 ”de diâmetro) consistindo de massas de estames escarlates. Floresce principalmente no outono e inverno, mas uma floração adicional esporádica pode ocorrer durante o resto do ano. Dit is een boom afkomstig uit Borneo, rode poederdons is een groenblijvende struik of kleine boom. Het was voorheen opgenomen in de peulvruchten- of erwtenfamilie, maar is onlangs overgebracht naar de mimosa-familie. Het wordt typisch 10-15 'hoog in zijn oorspronkelijke habitat en is een zeer populaire bloeiende struik in centraal en zuidelijk Florida, waar hij het hele jaar door in de grond zal overleven. Dubbel geveerd samengesteld blad (5-10 paar blaadjes per oorschelp) openen koperroze maar volwassen tot donkergroen. Framboosachtige bloemknoppen openen zich tot halfronde rode poederdons bloemhoofdjes (tot 7,5 cm doorsnede) bestaande uit massa's scharlaken meeldraden. Bloeit voornamelijk in herfst en winter, maar sporadische extra bloei kan de rest van het jaar voorkomen. Er zijn variaties in bloemkleur, waarbij enkele roze en witte vormen beschikbaar zijn. Calliandra komt van het Griekse kallos dat schoonheid betekent en andros dat meeldraad betekent.
