The note accompanying this artifact states that this shaving kit was found at Meuse-Argonne in 1918, the name Thos Devine is written on the back of the shaving kit.  

When
The Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which started September 26, 1918, and ended November 11, 1918, is understood to be the largest, and deadliest battle in U.S. military history.

Who
There is a tombstone for a Pvt. Thomas Devine in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, his date of death, Oct. 14, 1918.  There was an Irish immigrant who lived in Whitaker, PA by the name of Thomas Devine.  His WWI draft registration card describes him as being tall, slender, with brown eyes and black hair.  According to Thomas Devine's WWI Veterans Service and Compensation File, the last organization assigned to him was Co D 305 Am Tn.  The Sun. Nov. 17, 1918 edition of The Pittsburgh Gazette  Times listed John O'Donnell as being the one to receive the telegram that Pvt. Thomas Devine died in action.
