Thunderstorms Bring Heavy Rain, Thunder and Lightning To California! (5-14-15) Photo #4

            Storms were brewing around my area!  A spring storm system had brought t-storms in the Bay Area and the rest of NorCal this day.  It was unusual to have such weather at this time of the year... Pic taken from around San Jose, CA from up at The Point Church.  (Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2015; 1:02 p.m.)

Weather scenario synopsis:
A slow-moving storm system brought rain, lightning and thunder for the Bay Area, with most of the rainfall hitting Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties.  Our area was seeing a peculiar spring weather pattern for this time of year.  Weak low pressure areas were splitting off the jet stream and moving across California.  Thanks to the unstable airmass associated with these systems, scattered showers and t-storms were likely, including around the Bay Area!  Certainly, one of these stronger systems had arrived in our area of Thursday, May 14, 2015.  All of NorCal saw showers and t-storms.  The area observed dozens of lightning strikes with even a few strikes reported near Mountain View, Los Altos and Mount Hamilton in the South Bay.  This storm system had came down from Alaska and had moved slowly on a southeast path across the state.  Our area of San Jose, CA got a whopping 0.45 inches of rain from this system, thanks to its drenching t-storms!  That amount was near the monthly average rainfall for the month of May for our area!  That being said, no one storm can eliminate our drought all together... this storm was just a drop in the bucket...
