The next day broke and the sun fell on her bed in little rays while she slowly opened her eyes and reached beside her ... Where was he? Had he got up yet? His side of the bed seemed untouched ... Had he not slept all night? With these questions in her mind she got up, opened the curtains and windows wide and inhale a deep breath of the fresh morning air as she smiled.

At the same moment, one floor below, he was also standing at the window and drinking his tea. The decision about what to do, his reaction and response to the letter that he had received was already made and the letter lay written on his desk.

The question of "what" had to be done was thus clarified, the question of "how" and above all the question of how he should make all of this understandable to her were not.

He had pondered about it all night and he knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he didn't want to start this morning again with heavy thoughts and so he smiled gently and emptied his cup while he waited for her to come downstairs.

The day's work was done by quickly and everyone was looking forward to the upcoming picnic. Cakes, tea and various delicacies were prepared, the girls were making themselves pretty and get dressed and all in the house there was a lot of lively activity.

He loves to see them giggling and swirling happy around even if he prefers silence at most. Life seemed so carefree and easy when he watched them and for that short moment it made him smile and gave him a feeling of freedom where he was able to forget his burden, his responsibility and his knowledge of so much for just a bit. Nothing seemed to make him happier than these moments and he would give anything to keep this world for everyone here, but he knew better and he knew he can´t anymore.

For this reason, he forbade them to enter his room, for this reason he did not want them to know what he knew. He wanted to give them the opportunity to shine in this little, perfect world he creates, while he did and would do anything to protect them.

He knew things would change very soon and he desperately tried to think of a gentle way to make them understand…

It was a warm and sunny day that could not have been better suited for such a picnic. Now they sat there full of joy, laughing, eating cakes and drinking tea as he watched them from inside through the long window of the living room and did not try to despair of his thoughts for the future.

Then he finally took his cane and stepped out into the garden with a gentle smile. The girls all greeted him with a warm and polite bow and a cup of tea. Carefully, he leaned against the wall with his back, took his tea to hand and listened with joy to her gentle laughter and excited conversations.

Here now his thoughts found a moment of peace…
