Sep 12 2020 Orchid - the Ivory Tower?

            My first flower macros using my XF 35 1.4 coupled with Meke extension tubes (16mm, 11mm).

I've had in mind the idea to capture the contours of an alien-like surface for a few weeks, and found two sets of beautifully coloured orchids in my local grocery store. I spent a couple of hours adjusting and moving my tripod, shooting under, over, and all around these beautiful flowers as the sun beamed through my lounge window. I first shot everything at f8.0, finding it a pleasing point to gently draw attention to in focus areas. Toward the end of the shoot I began experimenting with f-stops 2.8 and under, and came up with some surprising results.

After the study I immediately edited the images in Capture One and attempted to emphasise the vivid nature of the orchid's colours without over-saturating the final image. I brought a little yellow and pink into the slightly blown highlights, purples and pinks into the shadows, and raised the black point a notch to achieve a film-like rendering.
