We are currently seeing a plume of Saharan Dust, a layer of very fine dust blown in on the trade winds from North Africa. This normally happens several times per year, in the late Spring and summer. The result is enhanced sunrises and sunsets, along with suppression of tropical cyclone activity (it is accompanied by a layer of dry air, which is not good for storm development). This was the sunrise this morning over the Bob Hall Pier on Padre Island in Corpus Christi, TX. The pier was severely damaged by Hurricane Hannah in 2020, and is in the process of being torn down and rebuilt. This image had some exposure adjustments, but is otherwise straight from the camera.
