Santa Monica Gold - a photo on Flickriver

Santa Monica Gold

            Santa Monica Pier is one of my favorite subjects. Usually, though, I like to shoot the top of the pier -- with the Pacific Wheel, the lights, rollercoaster, and all of the other activity that make it famous. 

Underneath the pier is a whole other world. Away from the hustle and bustle of the midway and the crowds, all you hear is the waves crashing, the cry of an sea gull, and the heavy breathing of an occasional runner.

My original plan was come to shoot above the pier. When I left my house, there was heavy fog in the valley, but by the time I got to the pier, the cloud cover was non-existent, so I thought I'd retreat to the depths of the pier, and see what I could find.

I hit the jackpot with this golden light at the end of the pier.
