Getting close to a volunteer, and an Oriental Pied Hornbill

            I am in the pretty dreadful Phuket Bird Park where most of the birds are confined in small, dark and cramped cages, something that depressed me greatly. One saving grace however was this rather mediocre bird show in a open air auditorium with a nice bubbling pond in it, where I got talking to a nice Brazilian lady who was with her tiny toddler in a stroller who was telling me of her travels in Thailand. Part of the bird show in the Phuket Bird Park was large birds flying about doing tricks. This volunteer at the bird park came fairly close to me with this large Oriental pied Hornbill so I risked this shot. I think I shook a bit in the process. Ouch! Sadly, though the lady is facing me and has a good expression, the bird is as well- I wanted to get a good shot of the large beak and casque of the bird, which I did eventually manage (see next picture) though the volunteer sadly turned away at that time! Oh well- can't win them all can you? (Phuket, Thailand, Oct/ Nov. 2019)
