There are four wine glasses in the picture however there appears to be five outlines of glasses that decrease in size creating the illusion that they are inside each other. Each wine glass performs the role of a diverging lens, causing the image of the object to be reduced in size while remaining right side up. The image created by the previous glass functions as the object for the next lens causing the size of the glasses to continually decrease creating the illusion of the a glass inside another glass. The addition of the mirror is responsible for the final image seen in the center of the picture, which appears to be another glass but is actually the image created by the reflection of the final glass functioning as the object projected through the lens.
