Durch dieses Abends sanftes Dämmerlicht,
Das mild durch die verhang’nen Scheiben bricht:
Kommt die Erinn’rung lächelnd her zu mir
Und spricht von dir.
Was je du Gütiges mir hast getan,
Wacht wieder auf und schaut mich herzlich an.
Ich lehne träumend mich in deinen Arm
So traut und warm.

Da weiß ich wohl, dass ich dich nie verlor.
Es steigt die alte Seligkeit empor,
Und wieder ist dein süßes Liebeswort
Mein Trost und Hort,
Versunken ist in einem tiefen See
Das von dir kam: das furchtbar bittre Weh,
Und meine Seele, die zu deiner will,
Wird froh und still.
