Water Rail (Rallus aquaticus) - a photo on Flickriver

            Taken in the grounds of Calke Abbey, Ticknall, South Derbyshire.
This very secretive bird just appears suddenly from the scenery and gingerly comes out to feed on the seed fallen from the feeders, then off like a rocket back into the scenery.
We were there for around 2 hours and these shots are from it's second appearance.
This time he/she came running out and just after my last shot he did a 'handbrake turn' and ran back into cover.
