Winter Raptors

            A Short-Eared Owl begins its evening hunt over the prairies and fields of northern Illinois. 
One of my favorite things about winter is the new species that fly south for the winter. Short eared, long eared, saw whets owls along with rough-legged hawks and harriers. Enough to keep you out shooting even in the coldest conditions.
