Dawson at Blueberry Hill - a photo on Flickriver

            My dog Dawson posing in front of Blueberry Hill, late on a Friday night as folks walk by.

I experimented with various settings for the taking of this photo.  Used a tripod.  Aperture-priority mode.  Used an aperture of f/8, not wanting to blur too strongly the Blueberry Hill sign in the upper left, since I wanted the location to be identifiable.

Used an exposure compensation of +0.7ev, since the foreground (where the main subject is) is in darker light than the background.  One thing that would have been interesting to have tried:  Instead of doing an exposure compensation, change the metering mode to have metered more directly on Dawson.

Used the automatic setting for white balance.  That would have been interesting to have played around with, too.

Used the automatic setting for ISO, ending up with ISO 1600.  The Nikon D40, despite being a entry-level DSLR, generates fairly low-noise images at ISO 1600.  It would have been interesting to have forced the ISO to 800, though.  Suppose that would have resulted in a longer open shutter, which would have been risky since I was really lucky to get the main subject to be still for as long as he was!
