The temperate redwood forests of Northern California are one of my favorite places to visit and photograph. It's also one of the most challenging spots for me to photograph. The scenes are usually very chaotic with a lot of foliage and towering, massive redwoods. The challenges are two-fold; usually, the forest's chaotic nature makes it difficult to bring attention to a single subject is hard. The second challenge is conveying the massive size of the Redwoods in a wide scene.

For today’s post, the scene I wanted to photograph was a panorama. There was one sizeable mature redwood as well as several smaller redwoods to balance the scene. What made pull the trigger for this shot was the little bit of fog coming through from the top. The actual conditions were very dark, and there was very little light that day, but I knew I could do some selective editing to emphasize the fog and the light coming through the canopy.
