Lower Lewis River Falls near Yacolt Washington.

No matter how many times that I go to this waterfall it never ceases to impress me. This is Lower Lewis River Falls in Washington.

Back before these times of the Europeans the native people who lived in this area would gather to fish at this naturally made dam. Because the fish could go no further the people could gather the fish easily.
This was a seasonal place for them to come to stock up for the cold days. They would fish for salmon, hunt for dear and elk and gather roots and herbs in the wetlands in the surrounding forests.

I have stood at this spot and imagined what it must have been like there 200 years ago. I imagine that not a lot has changed to the waterfall.

At this location I pay respect not only to Nature but to the people who had visited here for thousands of years before me.
