Horse Roundup, Montpelier, Idaho - a photo on Flickriver

            I am planning to post older photos for a few days, concentrating on images from local ranches.  This is a horse roundup on the Hunzeker Ranch here in Montpelier, Idaho.  This ranch raises cattle, sheep, and horses.  Most of the year, the horses are in a big field with very little contact with people, so they are pretty wild.  Once a year they are rounded up and separated for breeding or training, often for use by sheepherders.  When they are herded into corrals for the first time it is dusty, noisy, chaotic, and exciting with the horses milling around the corral trying to find a way out.  Taken in 2006, this is one of my all-time favorite photos and an amazing experience.
