African Lion (Panthera leo) in Timbavati Reserve, Kruger, South Africa

            This lion was seen and photographed at the end of a late  (very late) afternoon game drive with Luke Street, Ranger/Guide at Tanda Tula Safari Camp, and Jack, his tracker. Two hours earlier, Jack had taken a radio and left the vehicle to follow lion tracks that they had seen alongside the road. Jack's tracking skill and persistence allowed us to see this beautiful lion at night, a sight best taken from the safety of a vehicle. Please note that this photo was taken at 100mm focal length.
