My mom's birthday cake of choice this year was this lemony blend of ricotta and mascarpone cheeses on a vanilla-lemon crumb crust. She wanted to make it herself (sacrilege, IMHO - it's her birthday!!) but it was her first cheesecake in about 8 years, and involved a bain marie process she had never used before (she always wondered why her cheesecakes cracked!). It was painful to try baby-stepping her through the process when she was so nervous about everything, but it turned out just FINE!
