Painted Bunting - a photo on Flickriver

Painted Bunting

            A brightly colored male bunting in the Oklahoma Cross Timbers.  These shy little birds only weigh about .5 oz.  Their nests are often paraticized by Brown-headed Cowbirds.  Snakes are also nest predators.  I saw some cowbirds near this bunting and his mate, most likely bird-dogging them.
