Christmas Ghosts - #8 on explore - a photo on Flickriver

            This shot was taken last year. At the time I was posting a series of landscapes and when finished we were already well into January, so I’ve decided to keep it for next Christmas season (this one…). At the time I put a note on it to remember the intended title: “Christmas Ghosts”. 

By then I was far from imagining that one year later this title would gain another dimension! It is difficult to imagine a more ghostly feeling than the one we have today, with Lisbon’s deserted streets at night, due to the confinement rules in place. This is a Christmas season that doesn’t look like one. I know and can only agree with the need for confinement, but it is really sad to see that the Christmas spirit disappeared altogether: deserted streets, shops closed, an ever present anxiety, family gatherings strongly advised against, and so on.

Wish Christmas 2021 will bring back all the good feelings and traditions! And that we will all live to see it again!
