Cherish the Moment

            A lovely sunset over Grays Lake in Des Moines, Iowa. This lake started as small oxbow lake on the Raccoon River and was later expanded to 100 acres by the 1950s as a result of four decades of sand and gravel quarrying. Construction of a Holiday Inn hotel by the lake started in 1959 and residents soon demanded that some of the lake be used for a park. The devastating flood of '93 destroyed the hotel and then the entire area around the lake was then redeveloped into a 166 acre park.
