MV Balmoral was built by the John I. Thornycroft & Company in 1949 for use by the Red Funnel Line in 1968, as part of thier Southhampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal mail routes. When Red Funnel Line went out of business, she was sold to the P&A Campbell's White Funnel Line operating up and down the Bristol Channel, when White Funnel Line also went out of business in 1980, she was sold to a private owner who used her as a floating resturant in Dundee till she was sold to the Waverley Steam Navigation Co. Ltd in 1986 and returned to Bristol. In 2013 she stopped sailing due to increased costs of running her, but in 2015 she was sold to a newly set up charity the MV Balmoral Fund Ltd with the intention of turning her to sailing after a refit, which she did from 2015-2017 before needing more restoration work in 2018 and returning to sailing in 2019 when the weather permits safe sailing.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel's S.S Great Britain was launched in 1845 and was the first ship to combine an iron hull with a screw propeller.  Shortly after launching in 1845 she was the first iron hulled vessel to cross the Atlantic ocean.  In 1846 she was grounded in Dundrum Bay, Northern Ireland due to a navigational error.  She was eventually refloated 11 months later in 1847 and then sold to  Gibbs, Bright & Co.  

In 1882 she was converted to a sail only powered bulk coal transport ship till 1886 when she was used Port Stanley as a Coal Hulk till 1937 when she towed to Sparrow Cove and abandoned.  

In 1970 she was recovered from Sparrow Cove with the assistance of a submissivesubmersible pontoon, Mulus III, and the Tug Varius II,  after being transported back to Port Stanley they left on the 24th of April 1070 and arriving back in Great Western Dockyard on the 5th of July 1970
