            Bank Holiday Monday and day one of my Eastern Region Railrover holiday finds 55018 Ballymoss heading south through Barlby, on the outskirts of Selby working 1E05, 09:00 Edinburgh – Kings Cross, 29th May 1978.

Locomotive History
55018 was delivered as D9018 from Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows, to Doncaster Works on the 24th November 1961 and was allocated to Finsbury Park MPD. Whilst at Doncaster works it was named Ballymoss without ceremony. During March 1968 Ballymoss was fitted with dual brakes during a classified repair (General) at Doncaster works. It was fitted with electric train heating equipment during a classified repair (Intermediate) at Doncaster in February 1971. At the end of June 1977 55018 entered Doncaster works for a classified repair (Intermediate) which would take almost six months to complete not being released until the 10th December 1977. On the 12th October 1981 whilst working 1D08, 19:40 Kings Cross – Hull Ballymoss failed at Doncaster and was replaced by 37126. This proved to be its final working as it was almost immediately withdrawn and sent to Stratford for component recovery. On the 24th November 1981 it arrived at Doncaster Works for the final time and was broken up during January 1982.
