86245_1980_03_Nuneaton_A3_800dpi

            A rather grey 15th March 1980 was Football League Cup Final day and playing at Wembley were Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers. A number of the Nottingham Forest “Footex” specials to London that day were routed to Wembley via Nuneaton and 86245 is waiting at Nuneaton to take over from a diesel locomotive for the run up the West Coast Main Line. 

Regarding the League Cup Final, Forest lost 1-0.

Locomotive History
86245 was originally E3182 and it was built by English Electric at their Vulcan Foundry works, entering traffic in September 1965. It was modified with improved suspension and modified wheels to reduce track damage in 1973 and renumbered 86245. After thirty eight years pounding up and down the West Coast Main Line it was withdrawn in October 2003 and broken up by EMR Kingsbury during June 2010.
