            London and North Western Railway G2 Class 7F 0-8-0 49395 double heads, tender first with London Midland and Scottish Railway 4F 44422 in the rain at Consall, 24th February 2008.

Locomotive History
The G2 class is a class of sixty heavy freight locomotives developed from a 1912 Bowen-Cooke London and North Western Railway design. Originally number 485 by the London and North Western Railway it was built at Crewe Works in 1921. It became 9395 under the London Midland and Scottish Railway and 49395 under British Railways and survived in service unit withdrawn in November 1959 after a failure that resulted in buckled valve gear and a cracked cylinder block. Following withdrawal it was selected for preservation as a static exhibit and was never expected to run again. Following twenty six years in store at Crewe Works, Stratford, Leicester, Preston Park (Brighton) and Horsehay near Telford it was finally put on display at the Telford Industrial Museum at Blists Hill. The locomotive was becoming more derelict as time past with little restoration work taking place and the hulk was moved to Tyseley Locomotive Works in 1988 and then on to the Midland Railway Centre (now the Midland Railway) at Butterley in July 1990. In 1993 Pete Waterman offered to pay to restore the locomotive as he had fond memories of the class from his trainspotting days and twelve years later 49395 returned to traffic in July 2005 and made its first outing on the Churnet Valley Railway. In January 2014 it was withdrawn and placed in store after failing with leaking boiler tubes at the East Lancashire Railway Winter Steam gala.
