Chutes de Dettifoss ²/7 in explore - a photo on Flickriver

              Most powerful waterfall in Iceland, and even in Europe, Dettifoss impresses with its width and flow of around 500 m3. When you enter the desert canyon of Jökulsárgljúfur - in the north of the country - you can spot Dettifoss from a distance with the mist rising above, although it is quite isolated. Iceland, but also Europe with a width of 100 meters, a height of 44 meters and also a flow that varies from 200 m3 to 600 m3 depending on the season, precipitation and temperature.It is located in the north of Iceland , on the course of the mighty glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum. This river descends straight from Vatnajökull and during its ascent it crosses volcanic deserts to finally arrive in the gorges of Jökulsá á Fjöllum. In this canyon, the river will then pass through several waterfalls, the first of which is Selfoss, followed a few hundred meters then by Dettifoss, then a few kilometers downstream by Hafragilsfoss. faults under the river due to movements of the Icelandic ridge. When the water falls from Dettifoss, it plunges into a canyon of basalt organs. Dettifoss Falls are at an altitude of 308 meters.
