This street was developed around 1850 as Wellington St and renamed Cyprus Street in 1879. In 1919, a year after the end of the Great War, regulars at the pub on the street, the Duke of Wellington who had set up a  Discharged and Demobilised Soldiers and Sailors Benevolent Club put up a memorial tablet 'In loving memory of the Men of Cyprus Street Who made the Great Sacrifice 1914-1918' with a list of the 26 young men from this relatively short street who were killed. Young men had formed a 'Pals Battalion' from the street to enlist together in the same regiment, and this was the highest number of casualties from any one road in London. 

This picture is looking west at the north side of the street from the corner with Cyprus Place and the memorial, shown in another picture, was immediately to my left. There are now some fairly tall trees along the street. The houses at the right of the picture, without the white arches around the door are I think more recent replacements in keeping with the older Grade II listed terrace, possibly rebuilt after war damage.
