The Arthur's Way 5KM Race 2018

            This is a photograph from the Arthur's Way 5KM and Festival which was held at Ardclough GAA park in Ardclough, Kill, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 16th June at 18:30pm. The race was organised to raise funds to develop a hospice-style suite for bereaved families in the Coombe Hospital, Dublin. The race started in Ardclough GAA and headed out onto the Grand Canal towards Cellbridge along Arthur's Way before turning in the famous Lyon's Estate before joining back on the Canal bank and returning to the GAA club for the finish. Indeed waterways are an integral part of the history and geography of this area. The Grand Canal was a once busy transport route for passenger and cargo barges going to and from Dublin. The River Liffey also passes close to the area. The race is predominantly fast and flat but there was a very strong headwind against runners from the 3KM mark back to the finish. There was a very large field of participants in the race in support of this very worthy cause. The community spirit and connection to this worthy cause was evident by the number of families and children participating. Overall a very well organised event. The event management was provided by Popup Races.
