Great Crested Flycatcher - Tyran huppé

            There are a couple of pairs of mating GCFs around the Lake, and while they were getting the pairs sorted out there was the usual sort of combat - displays of aggression along with chasing, signing, etc.  I was on my way to see an area of the woods that is home to several species on butterfly when this bird dropped out of the canopy onto a dead branch, looking quite agitated. 

I have had a few encounters with this species involving this sort of descent, and mostly struggled with the narrow window of opportunity. Light, perch, pose - all have been a challenge. This was a little better, though it was shaded. 

It is great fun to have the ‘breep breep breep’ as the soundtrack to any activity in and around the woods.
