Fires-Mozambique - a photo on Flickriver

Fires-Mozambique

            Plains fires within the Kruger NP looking out towards Mozambique.  It's the end of the dry season and the land is parched.  These fires are started deliberately to control unexpected outbreaks. The fires are also an essential means of controlling encroaching brush which come to dominate indigenous species. 

The effect on the full moon is real - not PS trickery.  Thanks to my fellow campers in Lower Sabie rest camp foir pointing it all out - wish I'd got an e-mail address to send them this.
