Ex-Metroliner Cab Control Car #9800 - a photo on Flickriver

            Amtrak rebuilt #9800 from a former Metroliner cab control car for service on the Northeast Corridor.  Upgrades included a new front end, revised seating, and a conference room , which the traveling public could use.     

By the time of this June, 1996 photo, the car had been bumped from first class service on the Northeast Corridor and re-assigned to the short-lived Chicago-Springfield "Loop".  Springfield lacked a wye or turning facility so a cab control car was needed.  Patronage on this  train was very low--barely enough to fill one coach.
