Migrant Black-throated Green Warbler - Setophaga virens - Paruline à gorge noire

            Atypical habitat for this tall Hemlock-loving warbler. One of the fascinating things about the migration experience on Pelee Island is to see warblers at or below eye level as they forage for whatever insects they can find in the cold dawn. This year (2015) things never got too desperate. Some times when a cold snap hits in May the birds suffer greatly from a lack of available food and allow ridiculously close approach.
