Holy Saturday 2021

At Pastor Charles Calvin's home in Tomper, members of his congregation have gathered for food and a study of the Scriptures.***** Paprihaven has many people from many times, some well known, such as George and Martha Washington.

President Washington: It seems so foolish, Pastor. Given what they had seen.

Pastor Calvin: Foolish indeed, but when a soul is lost they are in darkness and love their sin above all else. As the Word says, "being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart" *

Washington: It would have to be that. They had seen Him raise the dead already.

Calvin: Just so. As we see: "When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.” The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus *said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”" ** And Lazarus, dead for four days, rose healthy and whole. You are correct, they saw it and their response? "So from that day on they planned together to kill Him." ***

Washington: So, then, to think that they could kill Him? To think that a tomb could hold Him?

Calvin: Oh, and you see their great fear on this point. Not just a tomb, but a sealed and guarded tomb. "The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said, “Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive He said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ Therefore give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come, steal Him, and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead.’ Then the last deception will be worse than the first.”

“You have a guard of soldiers,” Pilate told them. “Go and make it as secure as you know how.” Then they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting the guard." ****

But the tomb did not remain sealed, as we shall see...
