2108_0029 Black-tailed Prairie Dogs - a photo on Flickriver

            I have a few more to share from my Rockies trip, but am putting those on pause for now to catch up on some recent prairie material. And why not start with a pair of Black-tailed Prairie Dogs? They're so cute! Getting fat and juicy, too. Here a parent p-dog (left) is greeted by a juvenile. I'm not sure exactly what information is being passed between them; the youngster may be confirming identity, strengthening the family bond, begging, or something else altogether; the parent appears focused on something else but like most parents is extremely tolerant. Their interactions are always fun to observe, especially in beautiful light like this.
