1910_1677 Thin Ice

            A shelf of thin ice was forming along the shore and pushing toward the middle of the river where a slight current continued to keep the water from freezing. But not for long. When we enter the season of deep cold in December, there won't be any running water in my part of the world. 

This photo, however, isn't about physics. It's about beauty (not that the two are mutually exclusive). It's about the contrast between cool blues and warm yellows, the reflective water and the reflective ice, and the natural patterns found therein. 

I am finishing my morning coffee and typing fast, scrambling to get moving because the eastern horizon is showing some traces of dawn, the sky is mostly clear, and it isn't cold at all. That's the one thing I would change - a cooler morning might produce more interesting animal behaviour - but I'm not complaining. I bought my house 11 years ago in this location precisely because of the big national park in my backyard (figuratively, not literally). I wonder what will unfold this morning...
