LES PIGEONNIERS Plaisance du Touch - a photo on Flickriver

            Un colombier était à l'époque féodale un édifice destiné à loger et à élever des pigeons. Le colombier, lointain héritier du colombarium romain, est nommé plus souvent pigeonnier depuis le XVIIIᵉ siècle. Le pigeon était surtout consommé au moyen-âge, la viande étant alors un mets rare et coûteux. Les fientes des pigeons fournissaient une source d’engrais de bonne qualité pour les cultures.
A dovecote was at the time feudal a building intended to lodge and raise pigeons. The dovecote, distant heir of the Roman colombarium, is named more often dovecote since the 18th century. The pigeon was mostly consumed in the middle ages, meat being a rare and expensive dish. Pigeon droppings provided a source of good quality fertilizer for crops.
Un palomar era en ese momento un edificio feudal destinado a albergar y criar palomas. El palomar, heredero lejano del colombario romano, se denomina con más frecuencia palomar desde el siglo XVIII. La paloma se consumió principalmente en la Edad Media, siendo la carne un plato raro y caro. Los excrementos de palomas proporcionaron una fuente de fertilizante de buena calidad para los cultivos.
