The Shadow of Sri Lanka - a photo on Flickriver

            Our location is very close to the southern tip of the island, i.e. very close to the eastern side. So when the sun sets and is low, it's like being behind a corner: half of it makes a bright diffraction pattern, the other half is shrouded in shadow. Here you can see it clearly. We are looking east, so we have the setting sun behind us. One part of the eastern sky is still illuminated by the sun, the other is in the shadow of the island.
