Sudeley Castle 1975 (5)

Here's a steam rally that's fallen by the wayside, the Sudeley Castle Spring Steam Spectacular. It failed to live up to its name on a couple of counts, OK, it was held in spring, on the bank holiday weekend, but there wasn't much steam and spectacular was definitely over marketing. A pleasant little rally it was though and I visited in 1975 and again as an exhibitor in 1976. No idea what happened to the show but suspect it fell out of favour as there were many other better events at which to exhibit on spring bank holiday weekends.

My visit in 1975 was either on Sunday 25th or Monday 26th May, my records are not specific. I used a whole roll of Ilford FP4 film which I rated at 200 ASA and developed in Acutol. The camera was my Minolta SRT 303 and I used either of two lenses, a 50mm or 28mm. I also took a very large number photographs on transparency film, but many of them do seem to be replicas of the monochrome shots.

Here we see a Fowler general purpose engine, 'Tommy', built in 1922 driving a saw bench with a healthy number of visitors looking on. 'Tommy' is still to be seen on the rally fields today. Taken with the 28mm lens.
