Hilltop Standoff Behind the Scenes - a photo on Flickriver

Ever since Ken discovered Elgin Park and we began our forced perspective adventure, we have made it a point to reveal the magic behind our images.

This time, we share a Behind the Scenes shot of Hilltop Standoff with the build of the set it sits on. The Native American figures were the inspiration to build this. They needed something to hide or blend the bases they came with. This is where that quest led.

This set has a number of new ideas built into it. For starters, it has expandable wings. Like leaves for a dining room table, they allow us to decide, just how much real estate we want to work with. By folding or unfolding the wings we can get the camera right next to the heavily landscaped section or let the trees and bushes sit further in the background. It also has static grass and trees permanently mounted to the base.

The base itself is also something new. Like some bases you have seen us use, this started out as a 3D topographic map. Only this time, instead of being built with layers of 1/8th inch masonite, it was built using layers of foam core as the armature.

At each step of the process, I took a few shots to see how the view planes were working on the set. Each of the four sides has some kind of view window to help draw the eye into a shot. You will be seeing more of this feature as we post the first round of images we captured using the new base.
