Departure Seemed Imminent... - a photo on Flickriver

            Our flight to Minneapolis prepares to board at Boston's Logan Airport.

The first step of our cruise to Alaska was getting there. The cruise departed from Vancouver, but we spent the first day en route, waking up at 4am to drive to the airport, then fly to Seattle (via Minneapolis), then finally taking the Amtrak Cascades train from Seattle to Vancouver after a couple of hours in Seattle.

Believe it or not we saved a bunch of money this way vs. flying straight to Vancouver, and the train ride was beautiful. Still, it was a *long* day.

First piece of drama - after we boarded the plane we discovered that the pilot and copilot had never arrived. We had to wait over 45 minutes to get replacements and for them to do their safety checks, but they made up most of the lost time in the air.
