Doubleheaded before the class 60s - a photo on Flickriver

            Stratford's 37216 and 37043 drop slowly down the bank from Acton Wells Junction with 6v37, the 1108 from Harlow Mill to Acton stone empties.

The arrival of class 60s in 1990 and their entry into traffic over the succeeding years virtually eliminated doubleheaded type 2 and type 3 freight traffic.   

Before that happened, pairs of class 31s, 33s and 37s had booked flows in various parts of the country.   In the London area in 1988, pairs of class 33s worked from Angerstein Wharf to various terminals and pairs of class 37s could be seen on some short haul aggregates traffic from Acton as well as intermodal trains heading to Felixstowe.
