Durham street life, 1971

            It's early evening in August 1971 as class 46 No. 175 crosses Durham Viaduct with a parcels train.

On North Road, the early evening rush hour is underway, with a Northern Routemaster about to turn into the Victorian-era North Road bus station.

I don't have the exact date of this this image but I wonder whether it is discernible: the billboard for the Evening Chronicle says '40 Killed in Train Crash'.     On 4th August 1971 there was a crash near Belgrade in then the Yugoslavia that killed 35... perhaps this was taken on or around  that date?
