No More East Coast Winters - a photo on Flickriver

            43060 'County of Leicestershire' has 10 minutes left before it departs with the 2050 Kings Cross to Leeds service on 12th January 1987.

January 1987 was an exceptionally wintry month for the UK, with maximum temperatures on this particular day of between -7C and -9C.   Unusually, the south of England was hit hard nearly 50cm of snow along the Thames Estuary and in East Anglia.

Having spent the day running up and down the East Coast mainline, 43060 was about to take its chances again as it prepared to head into the bleak snowfields of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
